Safety

Last updated October 31, 2026

If you are thinking about suicide or hurting yourself, you can talk to a real person right now. In the US, call or text 988, or chat at 988lifeline.org, any time. Outside the US, findahelpline.com lists lines by country. If you are in danger right now, call your local emergency number.

Forge is AI

Every character on Forge is written by an AI. They are not real people, they can be wrong, and they cannot give you medical, legal or crisis help. AI companions may not be suitable for some minors. Forge is for adults 18 and over.

What Forge does when someone talks about suicide or self-harm

  1. Software checks each message you send in a chat for words about suicide or self-harm.
  2. If it finds some, a short AI check decides whether you seem to mean yourself, rather than a character or a story.
  3. If you do, or if that check cannot answer, Forge shows a notice above the message box with the crisis lines listed on this page.
  4. If you do, and you are in a one-on-one chat, the reply to that message is told not to describe, welcome or encourage suicide or self-harm, to give no method, and to answer with care.
  5. After a notice, Forge waits about half an hour before showing you another, so a dark story is not interrupted again and again.

Your story is not blocked by any of this, and nobody is contacted.

What Forge keeps

For this, Forge keeps one number: how many notices were shown each day. It does not record who saw a notice or what they wrote. Your messages stay in your chat as they always do, as the Privacy Policy describes.

What this cannot do

This is automatic. It can miss someone, and it can show the notice to someone who does not need it. Nobody at Forge watches chats for this. Please do not rely on it: it does not take the place of talking to a person.
